Triumph TR5 - TR5 Import
|
|
| Interested in finding or importing a TR5 to Florida. I've been led to believe that anything 1968 or later can not be done because of American specs. In 68 I know the TR250 came here while the 5 remained in Europe. Anybody know if there are any TR5's with a 1967 registration? Am I looking to do the impossible? |

| Hi Jeff, As far as I know the TR5/250 was only manufactured in 1968. There were only about 2900 TR5 made and the vast majority of them went to the "colonies" i.e. Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Regards, Neil P. |

| Jeff, the bulk of the TR5's were commissioned in '68. I brought mine over with me when I moved to the USA 11 years ago. Keeping the fuel injection going has been a challenge given that all the advice and parts you need are only available in the UK. However, with patience, every problem is solveable. Best of luck, Jim Link to profile & photo... http://www.trregistry.com/start/registry/html/TR5/index.htm |

| I guess I'm back to my first thought. I was told when I lived in England. (Five years around Banbury), that any car 1968 or newer had to have U.S. specs. Smog pumps, pop out windshield etc. That's why I was wondering if a search for a 67 might get me what I'm looking for. How did you ever get your '68 in years ago without a problem? I guess I must have my years wrong as far as the law goes. Can you guys help me with this? I did bring a 1970 Midget back with me after having it in England In my name for 180 days. That was the law for serviceman at the time. But mine was built for the States. Actually picked it up at the factory at Abingdon before it closed. It was a wonderful day. Buying a $3200.00 Yellow Midget, with no Taxes of any kind. No excise, no duty, and only $140.00 for a company named Bell Transport to pick the car up at the port clear it for me and have it waiting at McGuire AFB on my day of discharge. And that price included shipping it from Southampton. Those were the days. Oh did I mention five nights in a sleeping bag at the Isle of Wight Concert with 600,000 other loon-a-tics just after I brought the car down for shipping. Guess I'm ranting here. Those were the days. So what about it? What is the latest year of any car that I can bring in with no problems registering it? I always believed it had to be before 68. Am I wrong? Thank you much. Jeff |

| Most people who follow the availability of TR's in the US also are up on MG treasures. RV8's that were built for just about everywhere but the US seem to be plentiful and for sale, mostly I find in Classic Car Magazine. Has anybody ever had one of these converted for the US? I know there are some LHD's out there, but no Cats and would not be able to make import rules here without conversion. Just can't find anybody around here that does that. What ever happened to the gray market cars and do any of you guys know of any RV8's that have ever made it to the US. Thanks Jeff |
